Today's Prompt: How Important Do You Think Education Is?
I believe education is something that should be offered to everyone, whether they want it or not. I will never understand those people who deny an education, especially those who refuse to be educated about mental illness.
Education of a variety of subjects is important as education prepares us for real life and real life situations. I believe one of the most important of those subjects is mental illness, and I believe that education about mental illness should start in middle and high schools.
If education of mental illness would start in schools, in health classes, students would not continue to grow with a lack of understanding, and would have a lesser opportunity to stigmatize mental illness.
Ending the stigma that surrounds mental illness starts with educating the ignorant. That is why it is so important for those of us who suffer from mental illness to share our stories as often as possible and with as many people as possible.
I share my story of my mental health journey openly and truthfully because I believe doing so will enable ignorant people to see me as a person with a mental illness instead of seeing me as just my illness itself.
Education is important because it gives people the chance to grow as individuals and to expand their understanding of the world from different perspectives.
I believe that if more people had the opportunity to be educated, and that if more people accepted that education, religion, mental illness, race, and income level wouldn't be such prominent issues in our world.
