Daily Prompt: What Is Your Favorite Movie & Why?

Being as I've been without cable for the majority of my life, I've watched a great amount of movies. My mom never thought cable was necessary, so although we had a TV set, we never had any channels, not even farmer vision.

She encouraged us to watch movies, but not as often as most people watch TV shows. I started discovering various genres when I was around ten years old, and I remember some of the first movies I watched were Anne of Green Gables, Austin Powers, West Side Story, Step Mom, and Mermaids.

Out of the infinite number of movie's I viewed since I've been old enough to understand them, my absolute favorite is Australia, starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman.

The cast alone is enough for me to love this movie, but my love for it goes deeper than that. The story is impeccable.

Without spoiling it for you if you've never watched, I'll just give a brief synopsis.

It takes place during the time that the world was on the brink of World War II and is set in Northern Australia. Kindman and Jackman meet as strangers from different parts of the world, hate each other at first, but fall in love toward the middle of the film. They face challenges regarding Australia's racism and various social classes, and overcome these challenges by defying popular opinions and views. As the war begins, their challenges become greater, more scary, and more suspenseful.

There is tragedy, romance, suspense, wonder, awe, and heartbreak all in this movie at the same time, and therefore overwhelms the emotions. I love a movie that can make me really feel, and that is why I love Australia.

I am a sucker for a good love story, but don't enjoy when a movie solely centers around romance. Australia is perfect in that aspect, as it doesn't center on romance part, but the romance part compliments the rest of the movie.

Australia is my favorite movie because of its ability to tug at my heart strings in various ways, its wonderful story line, and because of its main characters.

I'm also pretty sure that there is a scene where you see Hugh Jackman's rear & a few knock-out make out scenes, too.
