Daily Prompt: What Book Could You Read Over And Over Again?
There aren't many book titles that stay in my mind after they read them, but "Once Upon A Marigold" by Jean Farris is different.
I read this book for the first time as an adolescent, and have since reread it more times than I can count. Actually, this prompt makes me want to read it again, now.
At first when I read this prompt, I couldn't remember what "Once Upon A Marigold" was about, so I took to Google for the synopsis.
According to Google Books:
In the style of The Princess Bride , a hilarious and clever tale follows Christian, who, while spying on the royal family, saves the life of Princess Marigold and falls madly in love with her, but a devious plot devised by her own mother, the Queen, to take over the kingdom threatens to destroy them.
And then I remembered. This book is a silly love story with romance, adventure, and the sentiments that good always prevails over evil, and that love always wins.
It's a young adult book, but the story captivates and entertains me even as an adult.
I enjoyed this book as an adolescent because I was obsessed with romance and being in love. Christian, the main male character in the book, was a perfect adaptation of who I wanted to be with someday. He fought for the princess and confessed his love for her in ways that could make me swoon. He embodied everything I wanted my future husband to be, and that's why I loved visiting him within the pages of this book.
Now that I've finished this prompt, I will go find "Once Upon A Marigold" and put it on my nightstand so I can read it this evening before I go to bed. I'm excited to revisit my adolescent feelings about the book, and am excited to see what I view differently about it now that I'm adult.
